The Concrete and Structure Laboratory is a laboratory for testing construction materials and structural elements. The major equipment consists of three compression machines, a universal testing machine, a steel loading frame, a shake table for dynamic testing and a pre-stressing bed for pre-tensioning work. The laboratory covers a wide range of tests on:
- properties of fresh and hardened concrete
- compressive strength and tensile strength of hardened concrete
- properties of aggregates
- tensile strength of steel rebars
- flexural strength of R.C. beam, P.C. beam and structural steel beam
- bolted connection tests
- dynamic tests on structural models
- light structures
The Environmental Technology Laboratory is used to support the teaching and practical training for Higher Diploma in Environmental Engineering and other in-service training programmes. Equipped with trade specific instruments, such as sound level meter or indoor air quality meter, the laboratory is able to provide on hand training. With analytical instrument, such as Gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS), X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) Analyser, Atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) and Total Organic Carbon (TOC) analyser in the laboratory, students could conduct the qualitative and quantity analysis of organic and heavy metal in water and air sample.
On top of the training proposal for our teaching programmes, we also welcome to co-operate and conduct project with the industry.
