Situated at Seven IVE campuses and MSTI, IVE Engineering Discipline provides state-of-the art facilities to support specific training needs helping to enhance students' learning experience. We emphasis practical training to equip students with solid hands-on experience. Thanks to industry support, some of the laboratories are established with industry involvement or sponsorship.
Facilities under Four Programme Areas
Construction
Facilities Management Centre

The Facilities Management Centre is equipped with a comprehensive range of building services engineering training equipment including a small operational chiller system for teaching purpose. It is also equipped with advanced building automation / management system training kits together with security surveillance training systems.

The Centre provides training and technical support for the local facility management industry. The Centre also aims to provide IVE students with knowledge on building services engineering and facilities management. Additional training opportunities are provided in building automation and management systems to enhance students’ competitiveness and employability in the industry.

Smart Energy Laboratory

The Smart Energy Laboratory aims to offer students studying Building Services Engineering, Electronic & Communications Engineering and Computer Engineering a practical environment to practise and develop smart energy and building automation applications for modern buildings.

The Laboratory is equipped with a Smart Energy Management Systems (SEMS) sponsored by Schneider Electric. The SEMS is integrated with 7 subsystems which include:

- Mini Building Management System
- Lighting Control System
- Power Monitoring System
- Smart Home Control System
- Access Control System
- Smart Entrance Control System
- Surveillance Camera & Video Recording System

Testing and Calibration Centre
This Centre is established for technology sharing in the testing and certification industry. The Centre is operated under ISO/IEC 17025 and provides calibration services and in-service training programmes. It will also provide students a real environment on the operation of an accredited laboratory.
Furniture Testing Laboratory
This laboratory equipped with testing equipment to facilitate students to practice various types of physical and mechanical testing such as fatigue test, impact test, stability test and static load test. The safety and function of baby cots, chairs and tables can be tested following international standards in the laboratory.
Electrical Appliances Testing

The Electrical and Electronic Appliances Testing Laboratory equipped with series of training equipment covering general electrical safety and flammability testing, ingress protection (IP code) testing, electromagnetic immunity testing, photometric and radiometric measurement.

Aiming to enhance student’s practical knowledge and training opportunities on electrical and electronic appliances testing according to different international standards, the laboratory provides practical environment for such purpose.

Model Optical Shop
Modelled from a real-life optical shop with a large variety of up-to-date ophthalmic tools and vision testing equipment, the Model Optical Shop help to equip students of Higher Diploma in Ophthalmic Dispensing with practical experience through a simulated environment.
Watch Technology Workshop
Consisting of a wide range of equipment related to watch making, testing and repairing, the Watch Technology Workshop is established to nurture new talent supporting the development of the watch and clock industry in Hong Kong.. In addition to the delivery of the timepiece technology modules under the Higher Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, the workshop is also utilised for the delivery of in-service training programmes for the industry.
