Situated at Seven IVE campuses and MSTI, IVE Engineering Discipline provides state-of-the art facilities to support specific training needs helping to enhance students' learning experience. We emphasis practical training to equip students with solid hands-on experience. Thanks to industry support, some of the laboratories are established with industry involvement or sponsorship.
Facilities under Four Programme Areas
Construction
The Jockey Club Heavy Vehicle Emissions
Testing and Research Centre
The Jockey Club HV Emissions Testing and Research Centre is equipped with the latest emission testing and research facilities. While the Centre is mainly a place for teaching emission control, it also provides a forum for research and testing for reduction of emission levels.
Technical Training Centre of Hong Kong
Aircraft Engineering Co. Ltd. (Xiamen)
The centre consisted of a five-storey building with the state-of-the-art training facilities for aircraft maintenance, landing gear overhaul and engine overhaul in an area with 45,000 square meters. In collaboration with the Centre, students of Higher Diploma in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering can receive practical training in a simulated maintenance environment on airframe systems, jet engine, aircraft avionics, instrumentation systems, sheet metal works and safety.
Aircraft Maintenance Workshop
The workshop aims to support teaching and training for students who are studying aircraft maintenance engineering related programmes. Through activity-based learning, they can realize the operations of flight control surfaces, such as ailerons, elevator and rudder, and also the applications of trade specific hardware on board an aircraft.
Automotive Components &
Electronic Systems Laboratory
It supports the teaching and learning activities of students who are studying Higher Diploma in Automotive Engineering. Investigation on the operation, performance and diagnosis of automotive components and electronic systems are the primary functions of the laboratory on top of customer service training. Professional training aids and equipment are equipped including engine management system simulator, CAN system simulator, simulation software, electric vehicle battery investigation rig, diagnostic trainer, new vehicles with diagnostic software.
Automotive Systems Diagnostics Laboratory
It is designed for professional skill training in automotive service, inspection and diagnosis. Specific areas for LPG vehicle services, vehicle diagnostic and inspection, major parts overhaul, under-chassis systems inspection and general maintenance are set up with professional equipment such as electronic wheel aligner, brake test roller, suspension tester, refrigerant charger, high pressure diesel injector tester, 5-gas emission analyzer and vehicle system analyzer.
Full Mission Shiphandling Simulator Centre
The Centre, consisting of four ship bridge stations, provides realistic simulation of a wide variety of scenarios, such as the interactions amongst four ships, to meet different training needs of marine professionals ranging from navigators to masters and harbour pilots through activity-based learning and can also be used to provide consultancy services for the maritime industry. This FMSSS is in full compliance with international standards and regulations, including the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW).
Mock-up Bridge Room
The mock-up bridge aims to support teaching and training for students who are studying marine navigation and watchkeeping related programmes. Through activity-based learning, they can realize the operations of various bridge equipment, including X-band and S-band radars, communication equipment, and Global Maritime Distress and safety system (GMDSS) equipment available on the bridge.
Simulated Airport Operations Centre

The Centre has been set up with operational elements which include airport operations, airport emergency and flight simulation.  With these enhanced teaching facilities,  students of Higher Diploma in Aviation will be provided with opportunities to familiarize with the professional practices and procedures of the aviation industry.  Real time operational scenarios will be included in the module syllabus such as Aviation Industry Environment, Airline and Airport Operations, Airport Planning and Management etc… to enhance their aviation knowledge and improve their self-confidence to face future challenges.
