Mechanical Engineering Students Share STEM Learning on RTHK
May 2020

Two IVE Mechanical Engineering Students, Mr Tayler LAU and Mr Emerson YIP, were invited to share their STEM project on RTHK. In collaboration with students from National Institute of Technology (NIT), Japan, the project, ‘Development of Auto-Parking System for 4-Wheel Vehicles’ advocated a new parking system using Artificial Intelligence technology to ‘learn’ optimal parking routes in car park environments based on essential data such as car velocity and direction.

While IVE Engineering students focused in the areas of map construction, path planning and feedback control, partners from NIT Japan shared their experience by introducing different electronic components and algorithms. The learning process was so inspiring to the students. With this smart technology, they hope to further develop a reliable autonomous driving system, which is even compatible with busy traffic flows in cities like Hong Kong.
