2012/2013 Chiang Chen Industrial Charity Foundation Student Project Competition
Jul 2013

A team of students from IVE (Lee Wai Lee) won the championship in the 2012/2013 Chiang Chen Industrial Charity Foundation Student Project Competition.

The four participants – Ku Di-man, Ho Hing-lung, Wilson Ho and Lam Ho-wai – are all final-year students of Higher Diploma in Applied Optics, and they developed an LED lamp for this competition. The colour-temperature of the lamp can be adjusted with pulse width modulation technique, making it a good fit for different purposes, such as reading, product display and art gallery exhibition.

The team designed and produced a prototype, which is consisted of
(i) a programmable control pulse width modulation (PWM) signal generator for colour-temperature adjustment;
(ii) a lamp shade reflector to facilitate the mixing of RGB and LEDs to achieve white light with desired beam angle and
(iii) a switch box to tune the colour temperature from 3300 K to 7000 K in five stages.

The Judging Panel commented that this project was very well executed, from concept to design, fabrication, and finally prototype testing.
