Jul 2019

The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Young Professionals Exhibition & Competition (YPEC) 2019 was held on 7 July 2019 (Sunday) in City University of Hong Kong.

The theme this year, ‘Integration’, attracted over 82 teams across five sections (Secondary, Sub Degree, Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Open Sections). Two students from the Higher Diploma in Computer Engineering triumphed over 17 other teams and took the top award as the Champion of the Sub-Degree Section.

The awarded project title, ‘Fall Detection Alert and Smart Home Control System for Disabled with Upper Extremity Impairment’, is a joint project between the Engineering Department of IVE (Sha Tin) and Smart City Initiative Project Office. This project makes use of two cameras, and an accelerometer sensor to create a system capable of detecting human falls and helping the people who have limited capability in using their fingers to control home appliances.
