Expands Strategic Partnership with MAPXUS to Cultivate Indoor Mapping Specialists
Mar 2026

The Engineering Discipline of the Vocational Training Council (VTC) [IVE Engineering] and Maphive Technology Limited [MAPXUS], a leader in indoor mapping and positioning technology, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on 3 March 2026. Building on a proven track record of collaboration, the partnership will furtehr strengthen industry-education synergy to advance smart city applications and nurture future-ready engineering talent for Hong Kong.

Substantial Achievements from Past Collaboration

The partnership has already yielded notable results. MAPXUS supported the deployment of a high-precision indoor mapping system at the IVE Tsing Yi and IVE (Haking Wong) campuses, and co-developed an enrichment module for introducing indoor mapping and positioning. By bringing the latest industry tools and real project workflows into learning, students gain hands-on skills in key areas such as indoor spatial data collection, map modeling, and positioning algorithms, keeping them abreast of industry trends.

Student Success Stories

At the signing ceremony, Mr. Toby Chan Cheuk Yin, a Year 2 student of the Higher Diploma in Computer and Data Engineering, shared his internship experience at MAPXUS. He participated in the "Fire Reporting Indoor Map" project, gaining first-hand exposure to how engineering innovation can enhance quality of life and public safety. Toby said, "This project has been immensely beneficial. I am deeply grateful for the guidance from both IVE Engineering lecturers and MAPXUS."

During the ceremony, Dr. John Chan, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of MAPXUS, presented Certificates of Competency to Toby and other outstanding students in recognition of their strong performance obtained in the enrichment module.

Expanded Areas of Cooperation

Under the renewed memorandum, IVE Engineering and MAPXUS will broaden collaboration in education and applied technology, including:

  • Curriculum and training: Co-develop training modules on indoor mapping, positioning technologies, and real-world applications;
  • Collaborative innovation projects: Undertake joint research and development projects, such as an indoor positioning and mapping system to support emergency response scenarios;
  • Authentic learning pathway: Strengthen support for industry internships and capstone projects, enabling students to work on real industry projects; and
  • Future talent development: Support outreach activities that demystify indoor mapping technology for prospective secondary school students.

This partnership closely aligns Vocational and Professional Education and Training (VPET) with leading-edge industry technology. Students gain not only job-ready technical competence but also the opportunity to contribute to socially meaningful solutions—developing into innovators who can drive both industry advancement and community impact.
