Sham Shui Po District Robot Design Competition 2021–2022
Dec 2021

The Sham Shui Po District Robot Design Competition 2021–2022, organised by the Sham Shui Po District Office and Sham Shui Po School Liaison Committee, was held at IVE (Haking Wong) on 18 December 2021. The challenge was to design a LEGO robot to address environmental problems associated with “three ‘no’” buildings (i.e. buildings with no owners’ corporation, no residents’ organisation, and no management company) in Sham Shui Po District. The participants’ logical thinking and problem-solving skills, along with their awareness of environmental sanitation in the district, were strengthened by the competition.

As a supporting organisation, the Department of Engineering of IVE (Haking Wong), leaded a group of 35 engineering students to provide training workshops for participants from 19 schools in Sham Shui Po District. The inspiring workshops helped to enhance their technical competency as well as to unleash their innovative potentials.

The competition was divided into two parts: rubbish clearance and obstacle avoidance. After a tense and exciting competition, the highest score for rubbish clearance in the Secondary School Category was tied between PLK Tong Nai Kan Junior Secondary College and Wai Kiu College. Interestingly, the score was tied again in the Primary School Category, with three joint winners. For obstacle avoidance, Heung To Middle School and SKH Kei Fook Primary School were awarded the championship in the Secondary School and Primary School categories, respectively.
