The IVE Engineering Discipline showcased its innovation at InnoCarnival 2025 themed “I&T Unlocks Your Dreams"
Oct 2025

The IVE Engineering Discipline showcased its innovation at the nine-day InnoCarnival 2025, themed “I&T Unlocks Your Dreams,” held from October 18 to October 26 at Hong Kong Science Park. Addressing pressing social issues, IVE Engineering students presented three innovative solutions powered by advanced technology and professional expertise: ScentSafe, Road Twins, and the Smart Meter Monitoring System.

The “ScentSafe” team earned the Gold Prize at the 2024/25 ITCC Innovation Awards, hosted by the VTC Innovation & Technology Co-creation Centre, and secured a Bronze Award in the Senior Group of the Dare to Change Business Pitch Competition, organised by the Young Entrepreneurs Development Council. ScentSafe is an AI-powered aromatherapy system designed to reduce traffic accidents caused by drowsy driving. It uses real-time facial and biometric data to detect driver fatigue and releases targeted scents to boost alertness.

“Road Twins”, an AI-driven digital twin system for road defect detection, synchronises physical roads with a virtual model to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of defect identification. This solution can be integrated into the Highways Department’s patrol vehicles, enabling real-time road condition assessments during routine patrols. By collecting data seamlessly, it reduces the workload for road inspections and optimises resource use.

The “Smart Meter Monitoring System” streamlines utility monitoring by automating data collection, improving efficiency, and reducing labour. It provides trend predictions and alerts for anomalies, offering valuable insights to transform building management with a more reliable and efficient process.

The IVE Engineering Discipline also hosted a hands-on workshop, “Unlocking Hydrogen Power: Fuel Cell Exploration,” introducing the science behind hydrogen energy and demonstrating how fuel cells power next-generation vehicles. Through interactive activities, participants explored complex hydrogen energy technologies, gaining a clear understanding of the basics and sparking interest in renewable energy development.
