ISATE Sendai 2016—where IVE Engineering Disciplines share technology knowledge with international partners
Sep 2016

Led by the VTC Deputy Executive Director, Ir Dr Lawrence Chan and the Academic Director (Engineering), Ir Dr Eric Liu, a total of twelve engineering discipline staff attended the 10th International Symposium on Advances in Technology Education (ISATE 2016) from 13 – 16 September 2016 in Sendai, Japan. Echoing the overall theme—Future Prospects of Technology Education Models and Approaches, ten VTC papers on various topics were presented at the international platform. Talks on vocational and professional education and training (VPET), STEM education and VR/AR-based training systems were delivered by the Head of Department of Engineering, Mr Jonathan Lee and Teaching Associate, Dr Calvin Cheung of the Department of Engineering, IVE (Sha Tin), respectively. The trip was fruitful for the IVE Engineering Discipline as they grasped the opportunity to meet delegations from Turku University, Finland; Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Singapore and the National Institute of Technology, Japan to exchange views on VPET.

The ISATE serves as a unique international platform for educators from higher education institutions to share their knowledge and experiences in practice-based engineering and technology education. VTC is honoured to be the host of ISATE 2018, leveraging this platform to further promote STEM education and internationalisation to VTC staff and students.
