IVE Engineering Students Win Gold and Silver at IFMA Student Competition for Best Facility Management Project Award 2026
May 2026

Two outstanding teams from IVE Engineering won the Gold and Silver prizes at the International Facility Management Association (IFMA) Student Competition for Best Facility Management Project Award 2026, organised by the Association’s Hong Kong Chapter. The competition drew participation from several institutions, including The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), and the Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi).

Gold Award

Topic: Fire Escape Passage Safety Monitor

A low-cost, vision-based AI system using a single camera to detect obstructions, fire door status, and exit sign illumination in escape routes. Results are uploaded to an IoT cloud for mobile alerts, enabling affordable retrofit for older buildings.

Award-winning team members:

LIANG Pui Hei

HD in Building Services Engineering (EG114702)

NG King Wang

HD in Building Services Engineering (EG114702)

Silver Award

Topic: Confined Space Safety Detection Robot

An autonomous robot integrating sensors and a microcontroller to monitor oxygen, toxic gas, and explosion risks in Hong Kong’s underground spaces. It provides real-time alerts, autonomous navigation, and reduces human exposure, supporting smart city safety goals.

 Award-winning team members:
