The 20th Infrastructure Building Competition for Secondary Schools (IBC) was jointly organised by the Engineering Discipline of the Vocational Training Council (VTC), the Hong Kong Construction Association, and the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. The Final was held atDomain Mall, Yau Tong on 25th April 2026.

We were honoured to have Ms Winnie HO Wing Yin, JP, Secretary for Housing, the HKSAR Government, as the Guest of Honour at the Final.

Since its inception in 2004, the IBC has earned wide recognition among secondary schools. Building on this legacy, the 20th IBC attracted over 150 teams from more than 70 secondary schools, reflecting the event's enduring appeal and its role in nurturing interest in engineering and construction.

Following a competitive Semi-Final held on 21st March 2026, the top 24 teams were selected to advance to the Final. At the Final, these teams showcased their skills, innovation, and teamwork through a series of practical tests focused on structural integrity and design efficiency.

Participating in the IBC provides secondary school students with an invaluable platform to apply physics concepts and basic engineering principles in a hands-on setting. Fromdesigning and constructing, to testing their models, students developed creativity, patience, perseverance and problem-solving skills—opening pathways to explore future studies and careers while laying a solid foundation for long-term development.

Through this competition, the VTC Engineering Discipline continues to inspire young talents and strengthen their interest in the engineering and construction. Our goal is to cultivate future professionals with both specialised knowledge and practical skills, contributing to the sustainable development of our city.
