The 19th Infrastructure Building Competition 2025, jointly organised by the Engineering Discipline of the Vocational Training Council (VTC), Hong Kong Construction Association, and the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, was successfully conducted on April 5, 2025. We were honored to have invited Ms HO Wing Yin, Winnie, JP, the Secretary for Housing of the Government of the HKSAR as the Guest of Honour at the Final.
The Competition has garnered significant acclaim within secondary schools since its inception in 2004. This year's competition attracted 141 teams from 70 secondary schools, reflecting the attractiveness and the high-level of interest in the competition. Following the Semi-Final on 15 March, a total of 24 teams were selected to participate in the final where they exhibited their outstanding skills and creativity in the vibration resistance test.
Participation in such events offers secondary school students the opportunity to apply their knowledge of physics and engineering, in addition to providing a valuable chance for personal development. The design, construction, and personal creation of models encourages students’ creativity, patience, perseverance, and problem-solving abilities. These attributes not only lead to new avenues for students to explore future developments but also establish a solid foundation for their future entry into professional fields.
Engineering Discipline aims to inspire the young talents to enhance their interest in engineering and construction through the competition, thereby cultivating a more robust cohort of professionals with specialised knowledge and practical skills for society, and collectively contributing to urban development.
